Too much stuff

Sharing is caring. Thanks for the support!

My daughter, my mother and I can hoard like the best of dragons. We have multiple stashes that we’d protect by breathing fire if we could. Alas, the only thing coming out of our mouths is hot air.

Let’s start with my kid. Kayla’s bedroom is drowning in stuffed animals. If Noah had had to collect toys instead of real life creatures, I don’t think there would have been enough space on the Ark. A bunch sit in the hanging basket in the corner. A few have escaped to the basement for pretending her dolls have pets. A massive amount are tucked inside a bean bag cover.

Oh but there’s more…

She shares her bed with a couple dozen.

And then there’s my mother. Poor soul is in a nursing home, but that doesn’t stop her from collecting boxes upon boxes of DVDs. Altogether, I think I could easily open a small movie rental store (if my clientele wanted kid movies and episodes of old shows like Get Smart). We could replace them all with one or two streaming apps but the internet in her nursing home is as slow as the residents.

And of course there’s me. My husband would tell you I have a shoe problem, but I know it goes deeper. I have too many kitchen gadgets (they are so fun…even if I never use them), half-used candles, a bazillion sweaters, and a about a dozen scarfs I haven’t worn in years.

And that’s only a few examples, but enough about me.

Here’s the real problem:

It’s not enough!

I mean, it is, but we don’t know that. My daughter still wants almost every cute and cuddly puppy, cat, fox, snake, etc. that she sees . My mom calls my on the phone asking for me to bring her more movies next time I visit. And I’m an enabler. I keep gifting them both with increases to their troves.

For Kayla, she’ll end up out growing them (hopefully). As for my mom, she’s set aside two bags worth for me to store at my house, so we can rotate them. That way, she won’t feel like she has nothing new to watch.
