“Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.”
Psalms 100:4 (NLT)
In the Old Testament, the temple was an external place. Now it’s us. When we wake up, we are entering his gates. Waking up thankful is hard, especially for me. I have bipolar II, but I’m pretty certain I struggle with SAD—Seasonal Affective Disorder. When the weather grows cold and grey, so does my heart. I’m gloomier, grumpier, more hopeless and find it difficult to see the good around me. As Thanksgiving approaches, I’m trying my best to look on the bright side of my life and be thankful.

The people in my life that I’m thankful for:
- My husband who is on this neurodivergent journey with me.
- My AuDHD preteen daughter.
- Her doctor
- Her psychologist
- Her psychiatrist
- Her counselors
- Her teachers (at least this year)
- My best friend who’s always there to listen
- Other moms who get me and understand my situation.
Things about Kayla I am thankful for:
- Her love of nature—she has a heart for all the creatures God has made (even spiders 😳).
- Her creativity. She is artistic and thinks outside the box.
- Her sense of humor. She can be really funny and comes up with great jokes.
- Her generosity. She’s always wanting to give to others.
When I go through a phase where I’m having trouble being thankful, I try to write down the good of each day and put them in a small bag—a positive pouch.
Remember the good and be grateful!
